LiveCOMPASSION Launches Operations

LiveCOMPASSION, under the leadership of Jerry Appleby, launched its programming and services on July 1, 2009.  Anyone interested is encouraged to make contact by phone, fax, mail or email.

APPLEBY START NEW INTERIM PASTORATE

Jerry and Polly Appleby will move to Kaneohe,  HI on January 27 to assume an interim pastorate of the Windward Church of the Nazarene.  This church is the largest Nazarene Church in the State of Hawaii with a strong staff and an elementary and pre school of almost 300.

The goals of this effort (3 months minimum) are Unity and Hope with corresponding sermons and programming.

INTERIM PASTORATE ENDS

After 2 years with interim pastor Jerry and Polly Appleby, the Apopka Spring Hill Church of the Nazarene (African American Congregation) installed a new pastor on December 13, 2009.  Rev. Jeffery Parker, his wife Balinda and 5 children began their ministry with great enthusiasm and a drive to evangelize the immediate community surrounding the church building.

Jerry and Polly Appleby spent 2 years accomplishing the following:

  • The finances were stabilized and a firm base of fiscal responsibility was established.
  • A new, modern and comfortable building was built on a larger piece of property giving greater possibilities for growth.  The old building barely held 50 people with no room for Sunday School.  The new building will accommodate 150 with several separate Sunday School rooms for youth and children.  Much of this was accomplished through Alabaster offerings, gift from neighboring churches, assistance from the Central Florida District, and local money contributed.  A USA General Church Loan was secured through the Church of the Nazarene.

MT. DORA CHURCH PLANT MAKES PROGRESS

Forty two (42) people gathered in the home of Bryan and Lisa Williams for the fourth meeting aimed at planting a new church in Lake County, Florida.

Jerry Appleby has given leadership to this group over the last several months and has accomplished the following:

  • A leadership team of 10 have assembled for planning and mapping the new church plant.
  • Sub-committees have been set up to make decisions about finance, location, strategy and leadership.
  • A prayer campaign has begun with weekly prayer meetings and regular email contacts.
  • Meetings with the North Florida District Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene has coordinated these efforts.
  • Weekly meetings begin February 7 with a financial base for covering adult, youth, and children's activities.

CONSULTATION WITH APOPKA SPRING HILL AND MT. DORA CHURCH PLANT WILL CONTINUE UTILIZING ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS.

GENEVA, FL. ASSESSED

Geneva Church of the Nazarene was visited on August 20, 2009 to view the possibility of organizing a Compassionate Ministry Center and a better functioning outreach to the community.  I found the following:
(1)  A pastor and wife that are both gifted and excited about ministering to the needs of the Geneva Community.
(2)  A facility that has been updated and renovated and is currently ready for many programs to meet these needs.
(3)  A community that is in need and business community that wants to help meet that need.

I recommend the following:
(1)  Immediately carry through on finishing the paperwork for becoming a Compassionate Ministry Center and apply to the State for incorporation and to the Federal Government for the 501 (c)3.
(2)  Begin the suggested survey of the  community and  get as many responses as possible.
(3)  Contact Apopka Calvary Church of the Nazarene to find out the steps to getting Upward Sports established.
(4)  Begin collecting as many names and addresses as possible to initiate a prayer support team.
(5)  Contact pastors to solicit more prayer support members.
(6)  Continue consultation with LiveCOMPASSION throughout the year to establish a follow through on the Strategic Plan.

APPLEBY VISITS SPOKANE VALLEY

Jerry Appleby visited Spokane Valley, Washington, between August 3-7 to study the need for two compassionate ministry centers.  Meetings were conducted with district leaders of the Church of the Nazarene as well as interested individuals who see a need for reaching out to the needy of this community.  Already Rev. Ian Robertson, local minister, has found numerous people that are interested in being a part of these effort.  The following was recommended:
(1)  Begin a Compassionate Ministry Center at Hepton Point under the  leadership of Revs. Ian Robertson and Steve Wilson.  This would involve mainly a sports outreach using Upward Sports.  Many workers are already recruited and the paperwork for completing the 501 (c)3 application is underway.
(2)  Begin a Compassionate Ministry Center at the Crestline Church of the Nazarene under the leadership of Rev. Shawn Stevenson.  An extensive community survey is recommended to establish the needs already being met.
District Superintendent Randall Craker is giving outstanding leadership to these efforts in establishing these centers to meet the felt needs of the community.
